Is this what you’ve been looking for? Does it have a third pedal?

There are like 30 cars that I'm looking for, this is kind of one of them. Too expensive I'm sure. It also doesn't have a third pedal :(

Nice spotting, dunno about that Porsche badge even with the connection. Those cars have definitely reached a depreciation floor, and maybe surpassed it.

You can get a W124 with a third pedal, not even as a grey market import, as early 260E and 300E could be specced with a 5 speed, maybe 86-88 only. Unfortunately never a 500E, Sacco himself probably couldn’t have arranged that.

I’ve chatted with the owner of this exact car. Ran into her at the Superstore in N. Van. She won’t part with it. :-)x

My Mercedes mechanic had a rough 500E, ran fine but the paint wasn’t great nor the interior. I needed a loaner one time and he let me have it for a couple days. It DRANK gas, had power though.

Yeah, the Porsche badge is lame. If it was the license plate surround, I'd be okay with it. Subtlety FTW.

Oh awesome! I’ve talked with her husband, he’s frequently at this shop with this one, their other green one, or one of his R107s. Really nice guy

Yeah it’s questionable, there’s one on each front fender in front of the doors too....

I’ve see a couple manual 300Es for sale, and one imported manual 300D 4Matic at a shop, crazy clean too. Unfortunately they're always expensive, same with manual 190Es

That's pretty awesome. I imagine it would be rough on fuel, fun as a second car though....the owner of this one and his wife both have ones that they daily

Well I went through a 1/4 tank pretty quick, I was like, already??

But if you could get a manual it might help to drive it carefully when you needed to. It was fun, they also have a 190E 2.3-16, but it isn’t loaned out.

This is true. Ooh I love those. They get as cheap as 7k around here, one of those is in consideration when I have second car money

The badge is not subtle. I would’ve gone for Porsche valve stem caps.

Funny thing to do - the people who care already know about the Porsche connection, and those who don’t know don’t care.

That manual 4matic car would be pretty cool, definitely a private import. I am south of the border, where less of that stuff has trickled in. The final run W201 Sportline cars with a manual would be fun, I don’t know if the nature of a W124 would be better with a manual though, it’s not too sporty, and IIRC MB manuals don’t tend to be sporty either.

Yeah exactly.

Ooh that would be a fun combo, I’ve never seen one though. I haven’t driven a good W124, but a friend had an imported 230TE and absolutely loved it, it was a 5 speed and one of his favourite cars ever apparently. I just can't really see the engine in the 300E being that much fun in general, even with a manual. I know the brief manual run they did was an attempt to compete with E28 535i sales, but I don't imagine it was very successful

A 230E isn’t going to be sporty. It might not be fun, but the manual might let you wring out more performance from the engine. I think that combination would be pretty robust, and reliable. The M103 engine and automatic are known to need maintenance, which as you know is often skipped. No matter what, it probably won’t be like an E28. MB has applied the pretense of sport lately, but it didn’t try much 30 years ago.

Yeah he didn't say it was sporty, just very enjoyable. More like it was built like a bank vault and everything about it was very satisfying to use, he was also surprised by the quickness of the 2.3, which seems weird that it would have any quickness. Yeah, it's strange for them and BMW trying to occupy the same segment, I prefer their older offerings that knew exactly what they were trying to be

I am getting older and lazier. If it isn’t sporty or fun, I don’t really want a manual. I live in a hilly place with dense traffic, it loses appeal fast. They even made W126 and W140 with 5-speeds - I can’t imagine that being enjoyable. But that’s right, W124 are built like a vault, maybe the final piece of old MB ethos.

Today MB and BMW copy and emulate each other.

I don’t blame you, my legacy is auto and with my commute I wouldn’t want it to be standard. I had no idea they made the W140 with a standard, that’s just strange. I’ve actually talked with a guy when I noticed his W126 was euro, it was a 280SE with a manual, only one I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, it's disappointing

I haven’t checked this, but I think all SWB 6cyl W126 were offered with a manual (in Yourup). This was for the whole run through 1991. At least the first couple years of SWB 6cyl W140 could be had with a manual too - here’s a pic, even has basic upholstery:

Funny to think of a massive thing like a 140 with a 5-speed, but they exist.

I don’t imagine it would be that good a time to drive, but now that I know they exist, I kind of want one haha. I mean the E32 7 series could be had with a manual too, but the E32 is, I assume, more of a drivers car

It’d be fun in a freakshow kind of way.

I went to a MB event today, saw a R107 280SL Euro with a 5-speed, somewhat uncommon.

Oh I saw one of those last year actually, it was in beautiful condition, pale blue with a plaid interior. I wanted it.
